Auto bus wash supports sustainable transport operations

Woden Bus Depot in Canberra chooses Christ ECOBUS system

Opening in 2025, Woden Bus Depot is the latest development towards Transport Canberra’s plan for full electrification of their public transport fleet by 2040. With capacity for up to 100 primarily electric buses, the depot needed a reliable, high quality system that could handle high volumes of daily washes.

How the auto bus wash system works

Made in Germany, the Christ ECOBUS C4000 is a four brush vertical drive through bus wash system that can feature an optional roof brush. Designed as a drive through system, it needs no bus positioning. You simply drive through the bus wash at the desired speed and the four brushes rotate, coming across the front of the bus, down the sides, and then crossing over to wash the rear of the bus also.

The Christ ECOBUS C4000 has a full electronic control over the brush pressure, which reads the bus according to the program that’s set. The bus goes through a pre-wash, then the four vertical brushes move across the front, down each side, before the system performs a final rinse.

The wash cycle sequence is the LED entry signal comes on, the bus proceeds into the wash, and the system automatically senses the bus’s entry.

There’s a medium pressure pre-wash and shampoo. The front brush closes in and cleans the front fascia. The side brush contour along the full bus length, then the rear brushes close in to complete the rear wash. The bus then moves through the final rinsing arch to complete the cycle.

Why Transport Canberra chose the Christ ECOBUS auto bus wash system

Transport Canberra needed a wash that could handle a high volume of buses every hour. Designed for performance and efficiency, minimal water usage, and speed of throughput, the Christ ECOBUS C4000 meets this need.

It’s also provisioned with a full water treatment system, allowing the ECOBUS to reuse water from its wash cycles. It results in an 85% reduction in potable water use, along with lower energy and chemical consumption – all of which are important for environmental considerations.

The system is fully compliant with EPA requirements and Australian Standard AS 5667, delivering reliable performance, environmental responsibility, and consistent wash quality for large bus fleets.

  • Automatic vertical drive-through design
  • Four-brush cleaning system
  • Minimal water consumption
  • Integrated water treatment and recycling
  • EPA & AS 5667 compliant

NA Group – Padstow, NSW

NA Group was established almost 30 years ago in the roads and infrastructure industry. Our business strives to deliver our projects with a focus on safety, innovation, exceptional quality, efficient project delivery and environmental sustainability. Our experienced and accredited team includes engineers, project managers, administration and crew. NA Group focuses on road maintenance projects throughout Sydney and across NSW.

NA Group has grown extensively after starting as a one-man band with a backhoe. They now have a very broad range of equipment of approx 40 heavy vehicles, 20 heavy vehicle trailers, large array of road making machinery consisting of profilers, pavers, rollers, bobcats, excavators and everything in between.

Nick Argyropoulos – CEO & Owner of NA Group says about Levanta “So we thought we would give them a try and yes they have definitely lived up to the expectation” he then summarised his experience by saying “Their service, their products are fantastic, their after-sales service have been second to none. I strongly recommend their services”.

10 years ago, they decided to bring service and maintenance in-house, allowing them to have more flexibility and better control over the service and maintenance of our equipment. This meant they weren’t relying on external workshop to meet our strict deadlines. In their recent acquisition of new workshop equipment, the NA Group team did some extensive research as they wanted to ensure they were backing a reputable brand with great quality products and service.

In 2024 they decided they needed to invest in more workshop equipment to allow them to lift their equipment easier and faster whilst maintaining their safety-first culture. They purchased a set of 8 x LiftMax LM65W allowing them to lift a truck and dog combination or split into two sets of 4 and lift two of their rigid trucks independently.

With safety so paramount they invested in a BM20200 Roller Brake Tester, this not only allows them to test all their equipment from a compliance perspective but also provides them with a diagnostic tool. This means they can pick up componentry that may be wearing and means repairs can be proactive rather than happening on the roadside.

At NA Group vehicle compliance is always maintained to a high standard, Anthony Hogan as the Fleet Manager was looking for ease of use and flexibility of the products to suit their needs. Anthony said “We deal with many suppliers in the heavy vehicle and plant industries, and I can confidently say the service, equipment and training provided by Levanta is nothing but first class”.

The two main mechanic Scott and Thomas were very thankful and appreciative of the investment NA group have made in this equipment. It means they can do their job easier, safer and faster which is good for them and even better for the ROI of the business.

Thomas says “The training has been incredibly thorough from Levanta. They gave us techniques we can use for troubleshooting as well as any issues we might run into”.

Scott says “The efficiency has stepped up and it’s a lot more reliable to get under the truck safely”.

They have now been able to go back through their assets and ensure they are at a standard they expect right across the fleet.

How to choose the right mobile roller brake tester for your workshop

mobile roller brake tester

6 pointers for selecting the right machine for your needs

A mobile roller brake tester is a crucial piece of equipment in any workshop, ensuring vehicles meet the highest safety standards. However, with so many options available, it’s important to know what features set a truly effective mobile roller brake tester apart.

Here are some key factors to consider when evaluating your options and how premium models, like those offered by Levanta, stand up to the test.

How to choose the right mobile roller brake tester for your workshop - A mobile roller brake tester is a crucial piece of equipment in any workshop, ensuring vehicles meet the highest safety standards. However, with so many options available, it’s important to know what features set a truly effective mobile roller brake tester apart.
1) Is it truly mobile?

The term “mobile” can be misleading. While many roller brake testers can be moved from one place to another, a true mobile brake tester is ready to go with minimal effort and no complex assembly. You want a model that allows you to quickly reposition it within your workshop or even take it on the road without needing to break it down into multiple parts. Levanta’s offerings in this space are designed to meet these mobility demands, making them ideal for workshops that need flexibility.

2) Does the brake tester have one-piece construction?

One-piece construction is essential for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of a mobile brake tester. Some units on the market require assembly, which not only takes time but also leaves room for error. A robust, single-piece design ensures seamless operation and fewer headaches. Levanta’s mobile solutions are designed to reduce the risk of assembly errors, allowing workshop technicians to focus on efficient, precise testing.

New call-to-action
3) Check the surface treatment – galvanised vs. painted

Given the conditions in which mobile brake testers are used, surface treatment is crucial for durability. They are often exposed to elements like moisture, dirt, and heavy vehicle traffic. Ensuring your brake tester has a durable surface treatment, such as galvanization, is crucial to its longevity. Painted surfaces may look appealing initially but can wear down quickly under tough workshop conditions. Levanta’s equipment is designed with durability in mind, using treatments that stand up to the rigours of the workshop environment, ensuring long-lasting performance.

4) What are the RBT’s power requirements?

Roller brake testers often demand significant power, especially during startup. It’s important to know the power specifications to avoid unexpected electrical upgrades or operational inefficiencies. Some testers may require dedicated circuits or higher electrical capacity, which can add significant costs. Levanta’s brake testers are engineered to be efficient without putting excessive strain on your power systems, giving you peace of mind that your workshop can continue to run smoothly without unnecessary interruptions to other equipment.

5) Check the durability of the roller surface

The roller surface plays a key role in the accuracy of brake testing. A well-designed surface not only simulates real road conditions but is also built to withstand constant wear from vehicle tyres. Poorly treated surfaces can expand unevenly under heat or sunlight, leading to inconsistent test results. High-quality testers, like those available through Levanta, are equipped with durable roller surfaces that maintain accuracy and performance even under heavy use.

6) Look for proven performance in Australian and New Zealand conditions

Workshops in Australia and New Zealand face unique conditions, from extreme weather to high operational demands. Both the BM20200 and SM18100 Mobile Roller Brake Testers from the Levanta range have been designed and tested for these environments, offering proven performance where it matters most. These machines are not only globally recognised but also tailored to the specific needs of workshops in these regions, ensuring that you’re investing in equipment that’s up to the task.

Levanta offers a comprehensive range of roller brake testers designed to meet these challenges. Beyond the BM20200 and SM18100, Levanta provides various models to suit different workshop needs, all of which can be found on their roller brake testers page.

Levanta’s roller brake testers are known for:

  • Advanced technology: Incorporating the latest in brake testing technology for precise measurements.
  • User-friendly interface: Easy-to-use controls and displays for efficient operation.
  • Robust construction: Built to withstand the tough conditions of Australian and New Zealand workshops.
  • Comprehensive support: Backed by Levanta’s exceptional customer service and technical support.

When selecting a mobile roller brake tester, it’s important to think beyond the price tag. Factors like true mobility, robust construction, durable surface treatments, power requirements, and local performance all play a vital role in ensuring your workshop runs efficiently. Equipment from trusted brands, such as Levanta, offers the best of these features, giving you confidence that your mobile brake tester will meet the challenges of your workshop while delivering long-lasting value.

Why use an oil filter crusher in your workshop?

More than just saving space

In the automotive and heavy vehicle industries, efficient waste management is essential for both cost savings and environmental responsibility.

One tool that helps workshops tackle both these objectives is the oil filter crusher. But what exactly is the advantage of using a filter crusher? Is it just a way to save space in the filter bin, or are there even more additional benefits, such as being able to sell crushed filters as steel scrap?

In this blog post, the Levanta team break down the main advantages of using an oil filter crusher and look at how it can benefit your workshop.

LWS048-1500-300 Vertical Electro-Hydraulic Oil Filter Crusher
New call-to-action
1) Space-saving efficiency

One of the most immediate benefits of using an oil filter crusher is the space saved by compressing used filters. Oil filters, especially those from heavy vehicles, are bulky and can take up a significant amount of space in your waste bin. A filter crusher compresses these filters into a fraction of their original size, freeing up valuable storage space in your waste disposal area.

At Levanta, we offer advanced solutions like the LWS048 1500-300 Vertical Electro Hydraulic Oil Filter Crusher, which can reduce the size of large oil filters and ensure your workshop runs smoothly with less clutter and more room for other operations.

2) Environmental benefits

Another key advantage is the crusher’s ability to drain residual oil from the filters. Used oil filters contain traces of oil that, if not properly handled, can pose an environmental risk. Crushing filters not only reduces their size but also removes the leftover oil, making them safer and more environmentally friendly to handle.

This is crucial for workshops aiming to meet environmental regulations and improve their waste management processes. By using an oil filter crusher, the remaining oil can be collected and safely disposed of, or even recycled, while the filter becomes non-hazardous material.

3) Potential to sell crushed filters as steel scrap

Here’s where the economic benefit comes in. Once filters are crushed and free from oil, they can often be sold as steel scrap. Intact filters, on the other hand, may still be considered contaminated due to the residual oil and must be disposed of as hazardous waste, which can be costly. By crushing the filters, you not only eliminate this hazard but also open the opportunity to recycle the steel for financial gain.

This scrap metal can contribute to the recycling stream and may even generate revenue for your workshop, making the crusher an investment that can pay for itself over time.

4) Better compliance with waste regulations

Many regions have strict regulations about the disposal of used oil filters. These rules often require that filters be thoroughly drained of oil before disposal. An oil filter crusher simplifies this process by draining and compressing filters in one step, ensuring your workshop stays compliant with local waste disposal regulations.

Why choose Levanta’s oil filter crushers?

At Levanta, we understand the needs of modern workshops. That’s why we’re proud to offer equipment such as the LWS048 1500-300 Vertical Electro Hydraulic Oil Filter Crusher to help you streamline your operations. Our range of crushers is designed to make filter disposal easy, safe, and profitable, while also contributing to environmental sustainability.

Whether your workshop handles light vehicles, trucks, or other heavy machinery, investing in an oil filter crusher is more than just a way to save space. It’s an opportunity to reduce waste, comply with environmental regulations, and even recoup costs through scrap metal sales.
